Stuffed Fresh Figs

The flavors of fresh figs, strong cheese, salty nuts and prosciutto contrast beautifully to create a sweet and salty appetizer. Enjoy with a balsamic glaze or honey or both!

This appetizer is super easy to assemble and only takes a few  minutes to prepare.  The result is an incredible combination salty & sweet flavors!  It would also work perfectly at the end of a meal as dessert!

Enjoy these bundles of deliciousness paired with Fielding Estate Gamay.

Ingredients:

  • 12  fresh figs 
  • 3-½ ounces of Gorgonzola (or your favorite blue like Roquefort, Stilton)cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup pistachios, chopped
  • Pinch of salt if the pistachios are not salted
  • 12 slices of prosciutto 
  • Balsamic Glaze (or honey), for drizzling the stuffed figs

 

Instructions:

Cut the stems off of the figs. Use a paring knife to cut an “X” in the top of each fig, stopping about ⅔ of the way down. 

Gently open the fig and stuff with a cube of cheese. Sprinkle with pistachios, salt & pepper. Place on or around slices of loosely folded prosciutto. Lightly drizzle with balsamic glaze or honey.

Serve at room temperature.
